Deadline - FAIL

I missed my self-imposed Sunday Morning Deadline for blog updating.  So I'm doing catch up with an extended Monday Morning Deadline.  So I find myself sitting at my work desk, drinking latte and watching Tears For Fears music clips on YouTube... because there's no one else at work yet at this crazy-early hour and I can sing Shout loudly without fear of retribution.
So yes, I've revealed two big things about my life here....  I do hold a day-job (where, I refuse to divulge as it is within an industry that I'm not overly proud to work within) and I have a penchant for really bad 80s music.

On to the week that was!!!

The best part about this week, is that Autumn has finally decided to slide it's way in; very coolly, very calmly.  It's bought some cracker days where the temperature is below 30 degrees C (86 F) and has meant that I can actually spend a bit more time in the garden!  Unfortunately this has meant that I've found some casualties of the scorching summer that has been.  One my apple trees has been unable to keep up (my Cox's Orange Pippin - which in all honesty probably isn't made for the Australian Summer), and my Oak has been unable to make the grade.  Both European plants that I gambled on, and ultimately lost.  It always upsets me when I see some of my plants pop their clogs, but it also reiterates to me how some plants are just not made for certain climes.  It also reminds that I need to get a wriggle on and purchase some 2nd line coastal plants so that I can try and reanimate the front yard.  Although, I have had a recent revelation that I doubt much has ever been done to the front yard other than mulching.  All I have found is a horticultural nightmare of a layer cake involving fluorescent red wood chips and the dog food sized lumps of volcanic rock that is scoria.  *shudder*  And when I finally scrape back the layers, all I find is unforgiving clay and not far below that, what appears to be bedrock.  The decision has to be made then, do I get in a truck-load of soil, as I doubt that much will have a chance in such a desolate claypot landscape?  Decision, decisions.  Then again, Michelle has suggested I think about taking up pottery...

Apart from the seasonal wheel of ... seasons.. turning... (I didn't think that out particularly well, did I?), we had a public holiday in South Australia last Monday.  The day is dedicated to the racing of the GGs, and while I don't agree with horse racing in general I was glad for a day off.  And it was spent in the nicest possible way with a sleep in, which in my world is 8am, and a day of lounging.  Particularly lounging with Michelle and our good friend, Tam.  This lounging was accompanied by cider, a grazing-style lunch with lashings of hummous and good old thigh-slapping British comedy.  IT Crowd and Supersizers episodes to be specific.  A perfect way to spend a holiday Monday, in my opinion.  The thing I find with weeks that start with a public hoilday, is that they are a mixture of uppers and downers.
Upper - PUBLIC HOLIDAY MONDAY!!  <*insert jubilation / celebration / alcoholelation>
Downer - Tuesday... work.  (Combined cursing.)
Upper - BUT SHORT WEEK!  YOU RIPPER!  *see above
Downer - Next week is a normal week....  and so on.

PS - If you hadn't noticed already, this was posted on Wednesday... so I actually missed my own extended deadline deadline.
