Paint tins, raindrops and impromptu lunches.

YurtGirl World has been in a state of 'tradie-flux' over the last week. At the start of the week it was a ceiling repair due to some storm damage during winter. Then from Wednesday onwards, we had the majority of the inside painted. (With the exception of Miss Yurtette's room - which I shall tackle in a few weeks with her 'pink' input, and my study which is still somewhat of a junk-room at present). It's been a little on the disruptive side, and the paint fumes haven't always been to my liking, but the outcome has been so worth it!

With a house such as The Yurt, we have found it pays to get professional assistance in helping with such things as colour. Bear in mind, we have very few 'flat' walls in this house. Most of them are angled, and when it comes to paint colour it can either go wonderfully right or horribly wrong. Unfortunately, the previous owners ended up achieving the latter. There was a mish-mash of awefulness downstairs, which is open plan living-dining-kitchen. Half of the area was 'Lime Popsicle' green (sort of an a Granny Smith green on acid) and the other half a minty-blue. Upstairs was even more frightening!! The green spread throughout Michelle's studio like a fungus. While our bedroom and the bathroom was bathed in a nauseating fleshy pink. The bathroom tiles are still painted this colour, however they are not long for this world with a bathroom reno planned in the future. At the suggestion of our interior decorators, we went for white throughout with the exception of deep purple ('All That Jazz') in the window recesses upstairs, and a teal-blue (Mystic Mosaic) on the landing wall and feature wall in the lounge area. Our painter, poor Troy, had to squeeze himself into some impressive yoga positions in order to paint some of the more challenging angled areas. The result though is simply stunning! Suddenly you can actually SEE the amazing vaulted ceiling that follows the shape of the roof, and the upstairs windows now frame our view of the ocean. Who woudl've thought that such a simple thing as paint could completely change the way a house looks and feels?

One of the recessed windows - so hard to take a photo when the western sun is glaring in!

White showing off ALL our ladies curves!

A sea-breeze in our own house!

The other exciting thing that has happened at YurtGirl World recently... is RAIN! There has been a heatwave here in Australia for the last few weeks, and unfortunately with that, bushfires. But blessedly this morning we woke to find that it had been raining!! The garden here was in raptures... And I admit to being excited in that I didn't have to water the plants today. Lazy but true.

And so, with such wonderful cool weather, we decided today to take an impromptu jaunt up to the Adelaide Hills. We ended up at my gorgeous friend, Silvia's, Seasonal Garden Cafe. Silvia is the highly successful Honey Lady who has taken her passion for fresh, seasonal produce to a whole new level by opening up her own establishment. We've already frequented here for afternoon tea, but today we decided to partake in lunch. An enormous plate of mixed-salads (heavy on the quinoa - of which I will be attempting to grow here soon!), an eggplant-zucchini bake and mouth-watering friands and chocolate cakes ensured that we waddled out of there. The best part about all this though, is that it is all GOOD for you. There is nothing better than indulging in an absolute feast, with the knowledge that you are actually feeding your body as well as your soul. Corny, but in this case very true! The best part was that there were left-overs

A veritable FEAST! How many meals have you had where the aftermath looks as good as this??

And so, this little YurtGirl is now curled up on the bed... under a swathe of purple-goodness. The house smells of freshly baked bread (of which the recipe I will post shortly, because the bread that I make is possibly the easiest to make without the aid of a breadmaker). I'm wearing the the most comfy yoga pants I can find and I'm about to indulge in some left-overs that we carted home from Hahndorf.

  1. That looks like the kind of restaurant I love - mismatched china and all! Looking forward to your bread recipe - nothing beats the smell of homemade bread when there's a blizzard outside, although I guess you'll just have to take my word on that one! ;o)

    1. It is the most wonderful cafe! Our friend, Silvia, has done so well to achieve such success!

Ahhh I love homemade bread! And although I'm NOT a fan of the cold, the idea of freshly baked bread with a blizzard raging outside is strangely comforting!
